3 Month Contract with A local Authority


Job Purpose

To manage a caseload of youth justice cases, including both out-of-court disposals and statutory court orders, in line with the National Standards and the HMIP Inspection Framework. Applying the Child First, Offender Second approach, the post-holder will provide effective support and interventions to children and young people to complete their disposals/orders and work towards a crime-free future.


Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a caseload of children and young people involved in the youth justice system.

  • Undertake comprehensive assessment and planning using AssetPlus, focusing on trauma-informed practice and identifying desistance factors to support behavior change.

  • Provide effective interventions to reduce offending and re-offending, tailored to individual needs.

  • Ensure equality of opportunity and anti-discriminatory practice is embedded in all aspects of work.

  • Work collaboratively with children, young people, their families, and partner agencies to deliver evidence-based group or individual interventions.

  • Address factors linked to disengagement from education, employment, and training to support long-term positive outcomes.

  • Maintain engagement with children and young people to ensure safety and the safety of others.

  • Prepare Pre-Sentence Reports, Stand-Down Reports, and Referral Order Panel Reports, as required.

  • Represent the Youth Justice and Prevention Service (YJTPS) in court and other relevant forums, presenting information clearly and professionally.

  • Provide clear and effective communication with children, young people, families, and internal/external partners.

  • Collaborate with multi-agency teams to ensure cohesive and coordinated intervention strategies.

  • Keep accurate and timely records in line with service standards and national guidance.

  • Stay up-to-date with current legislation, research, and best practice in youth justice and social care.

  • Contribute to team development, supervision, and reflective practice



Requirements

  • Social Care qualification required (e.g., Social Work degree).
  • Registration with professional body (if applicable).

  • Significant experience in youth justice, social care, or related field.

  • Knowledge of AssetPlus, trauma-informed practice, and evidence-based interventions.

  • Understanding of national youth justice standards, HMIP framework, and court processes.

  • Excellent communication, engagement, and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work independently and manage complex caseloads.

  • Strong assessment, report-writing, and analytical skills.

  • Commitment to anti-discriminatory practice and equality of opportunity.

  • Child-focused and resilient with a passion for supporting young people.

  • Collaborative approach to multi-agency working.

  • Reflective practitioner, willing to develop skills and knowledge continually.
