Job description
3 Month Contract with A local Authority
To manage a caseload of youth justice cases, including both out-of-court disposals and statutory court orders, in line with the National Standards and the HMIP Inspection Framework. Applying the Child First, Offender Second approach, the post-holder will provide effective support and interventions to children and young people to complete their disposals/orders and work towards a crime-free future.
Key Responsibilities
Manage a caseload of children and young people involved in the youth justice system.
Undertake comprehensive assessment and planning using AssetPlus, focusing on trauma-informed practice and identifying desistance factors to support behavior change.
Provide effective interventions to reduce offending and re-offending, tailored to individual needs.
Ensure equality of opportunity and anti-discriminatory practice is embedded in all aspects of work.
Work collaboratively with children, young people, their families, and partner agencies to deliver evidence-based group or individual interventions.
Address factors linked to disengagement from education, employment, and training to support long-term positive outcomes.
Maintain engagement with children and young people to ensure safety and the safety of others.
Prepare Pre-Sentence Reports, Stand-Down Reports, and Referral Order Panel Reports, as required.
Represent the Youth Justice and Prevention Service (YJTPS) in court and other relevant forums, presenting information clearly and professionally.
Provide clear and effective communication with children, young people, families, and internal/external partners.
Collaborate with multi-agency teams to ensure cohesive and coordinated intervention strategies.
Keep accurate and timely records in line with service standards and national guidance.
Stay up-to-date with current legislation, research, and best practice in youth justice and social care.
Contribute to team development, supervision, and reflective practice
Requirements
- Social Care qualification required (e.g., Social Work degree).
Registration with professional body (if applicable).
Significant experience in youth justice, social care, or related field.
Knowledge of AssetPlus, trauma-informed practice, and evidence-based interventions.
Understanding of national youth justice standards, HMIP framework, and court processes.
Excellent communication, engagement, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently and manage complex caseloads.
Strong assessment, report-writing, and analytical skills.
Commitment to anti-discriminatory practice and equality of opportunity.
Child-focused and resilient with a passion for supporting young people.
Collaborative approach to multi-agency working.
Reflective practitioner, willing to develop skills and knowledge continually.
