Job description
3 Month Contract With A Local Authority
Job Purpose
The Chef will be responsible for delivering high-quality catering services within the establishment, providing nutritious meals for children, young people, staff, and visitors. The role includes planning menus, managing food budgets, maintaining high standards of food safety and hygiene, and ensuring the efficient operation of the kitchen.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare, cook, and serve high-quality meals in accordance with approved menus and nutritional standards.
- Plan menus, order food supplies, and monitor expenditure within the allocated budget.
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness, food hygiene, and kitchen safety at all times.
- Check deliveries for quality and quantity, reporting any issues with suppliers or equipment.
- Ensure compliance with the Health and Safety at Work Act, food hygiene legislation, and other relevant regulations.
- Maintain secure food storage areas and accurate stock control records.
- Clean kitchen equipment, work surfaces, and storage areas in line with cleaning schedules.
- Support COSHH and risk assessment processes, ensuring safe use of equipment and chemicals.
- Promote excellent customer service and maintain positive relationships with children, colleagues, and visitors.
- Contribute to a safe, inclusive, and professional working environment, adhering to safeguarding and health and safety procedures.
Requirements
- Previous experience working in a professional catering or kitchen environment.
- Knowledge of food hygiene, health and safety, and safe food preparation practices.
- Ability to plan menus, manage stock, and work within budget constraints.
- Strong organisational and time management skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good communication and customer service skills.
- Food Hygiene Certificate (Level 2 or equivalent) is desirable.
- Understanding of COSHH and health and safety requirements within a catering environment.
