3 months contract Role with a local authority
Summary
- The Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG) Officer is a critical role within the local authority, tasked with delivering a high-quality adaptations service. This position is essential for enabling disabled and vulnerable residents to live independently, safely, and comfortably in their homes. The DFG Officer will assess grant applications, conduct property surveys, prepare specifications and schedules of works, manage adaptation projects, and ensure compliance with relevant housing legislation, regulations, and local authority policies.
Responsibilities
- Assess and process Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG) applications from initial enquiry through to completion.
- Review Occupational Therapist recommendations and determine appropriate adaptation solutions.
- Conduct financial means-testing assessments to determine grant eligibility.
- Provide advice and guidance to applicants, families, carers, and professionals on the DFG process.
- Conduct inspections and surveys of residential properties.
- Assess housing conditions and identify adaptation requirements.
- Prepare specifications, drawings, schedules of work, and cost estimates.
- Ensure proposed adaptations comply with building regulations, health and safety requirements, and relevant legislation.
- Monitor works on site to ensure quality, compliance, and value for money.
Requirements:
- Essential Experience Required
- Experience administering Disabled Facilities Grants and home adaptation schemes.
- Experience interpreting Occupational Therapist recommendations and implementing practical housing solutions.
- Experience carrying out property inspections, surveys, and technical assessments.
- Experience preparing specifications, drawings, schedules of work, and project documentation.

- Essential Qualifications Required
- Degree, Diploma, HNC, HND, or equivalent qualification in Building Surveying, Construction, Environmental Health, Housing, Property Services, or a related discipline.
- Relevant training in housing inspections, adaptations, or property assessment.
