12 weeks contract with a Local Authority
Job Summary:
• We are seeking a reliable and physically capable Driver/General Operative to support street cleansing and waste services as part of a public protection and environmental team.
• The successful candidate will perform routine cleansing tasks and be responsible for driving Council vehicles, with occasional supervisory duties over cleansing operatives when required.

Key Duties/Accountabilities (Sample):
• Perform daily street cleansing tasks as per contract specifications and route schedules.
• Safely operate and drive Council vehicles in line with the Driver Handbook and all safety regulations.
• Ensure compliance with Health and Safety policies, including proper use of PPE and uniforms.
• Report any accidents, faults, or safety concerns promptly to supervisors.
• Supervise cleansing operatives when working as a team.
• Attend mandatory training courses as directed.
• Work collaboratively with client officers, colleagues, and members of the public.
• Undertake various operational duties as instructed by line managers.

Skills/Experience:
• Ability to undertake physically demanding tasks such as walking, lifting, bending, and carrying.
• Strong knowledge of the local area and street network.
• Understanding of public sector service delivery standards.
• Good customer service and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
• Reliable, self-motivated, and proactive.
• Capable of working under pressure and to tight deadlines.
• Willingness to work weekends, bank holidays, and during adverse weather conditions.
• Experience in cleansing or refuse collection roles.
• Previous supervisory experience.
• Basic understanding of health and safety in operational environments.

Additional Information:
• The closing date: 26/09/2025.
• This is a temporary role providing sickness cover for a period of 12 weeks, working 37 hours per week.
• Full, current UK driving licence.
