Summary

  • The Finance Manager will play a pivotal leadership role within the Finance and Commercial Directorate, contributing to the council's goal of establishing a “Best in Class” finance function. The role involves providing strategic financial leadership, conducting thorough financial analysis, and offering commercial insights to facilitate effective decision-making, organizational transformation, and the delivery of cost-effective services.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with budget managers to develop, monitor, and challenge budgets, savings proposals, and capital programs.

  • Lead financial monitoring activities, ensuring timely and accurate analysis of financial performance, risks, and opportunities.

  • Support budget managers during budget preparation, forecasting, year-end processes, and account closure.

  • Ensure robust financial controls, reconciliations, and supporting documentation are maintained.

  • Identify and manage financial pressures and risks, recommending mitigating actions and escalating unresolved issues as necessary.

Requirements

  • Essential Experience Required:

    • Experience, evidenced by a record of success, of managing a significant organisational function or service in a large multi-disciplined organisation with comparable scope, budgets and resources, including of commercial and financial management..

  • Essential Qualifications Required:

    • CCAB-qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIPFA, ICAS) or CIMA qualified (or overseas equivalent).

    • Degree-level qualification or equivalent professional experience.

    • Postgraduate qualification or significant relevant experience demonstrating equivalent knowledge.

  • Working hours: 37 hours per week.

  • Location: 25 Windsor Road, Slough, Berkshire, SL1 2EJ, United Kingdom.

  • Hybrid working arrangements: To be discussed at interview, minimum 2 days per week.

  • Schedule: Bi-weekly.
