Summary
The Finance Manager will play a pivotal leadership role within the Finance and Commercial Directorate, contributing to the council's goal of establishing a “Best in Class” finance function. The role involves providing strategic financial leadership, conducting thorough financial analysis, and offering commercial insights to facilitate effective decision-making, organizational transformation, and the delivery of cost-effective services.
Responsibilities
Partner with budget managers to develop, monitor, and challenge budgets, savings proposals, and capital programs.
Lead financial monitoring activities, ensuring timely and accurate analysis of financial performance, risks, and opportunities.
Support budget managers during budget preparation, forecasting, year-end processes, and account closure.
Ensure robust financial controls, reconciliations, and supporting documentation are maintained.
Identify and manage financial pressures and risks, recommending mitigating actions and escalating unresolved issues as necessary.
Requirements
Essential Experience Required:
Experience, evidenced by a record of success, of managing a significant organisational function or service in a large multi-disciplined organisation with comparable scope, budgets and resources, including of commercial and financial management..
Essential Qualifications Required:
CCAB-qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIPFA, ICAS) or CIMA qualified (or overseas equivalent).
Degree-level qualification or equivalent professional experience.
Postgraduate qualification or significant relevant experience demonstrating equivalent knowledge.
Additional Information
Working hours: 37 hours per week.
Location: 25 Windsor Road, Slough, Berkshire, SL1 2EJ, United Kingdom.
Hybrid working arrangements: To be discussed at interview, minimum 2 days per week.
Schedule: Bi-weekly.
