12 months contract Role with a local authority
Summary
- This 12-month contract role with a local authority is designed to support the development, implementation, and review of policies, plans, and procedures in accordance with the Civil Contingencies Act and other statutory requirements. The position plays a crucial role in safeguarding residents and communities during emergencies and disruptions by collaborating with internal teams, emergency services, and the Local Resilience Forum. The role also involves maintaining a robust Business Continuity Management system and supporting major events to ensure public safety and resilience.
Responsibilities
- Deliver work programmes aligned with the Civil Contingencies Act and relevant statutory regulations.
- Lead and contribute to specialist work streams, as directed by the Principal Emergency Management Officer.
- Develop, implement, and maintain emergency plans and procedures for effective multi-agency responses.
- Assist in designing and delivering training programmes and emergency exercises to enhance preparedness.
- Liaise with council departments, emergency services, voluntary organisations, and external partners for coordinated planning and response.
- Attend relevant meetings, training sessions, and exercises as required.

Essential Experience
- Experience working in emergency planning, resilience, or a related field.
- Experience in developing or supporting emergency response or business continuity plans.
- Experience of working with multi-agency partners such as emergency services or local authorities.
- Experience in delivering or supporting training exercises is desirable.
Essential Qualifications
- Degree or equivalent qualification in Emergency Planning, Public Safety, Risk Management, or a related discipline (or relevant experience in lieu of qualifications).
- Knowledge of the Civil Contingencies Act and emergency planning frameworks.
- Relevant professional certifications (e.g., emergency planning, business continuity) are desirable.
