Summary

Responsibilities

Environmental Protection & Enforcement

• Investigate complaints related to statutory nuisances, noise, waste, smoke, dust, odour, and pollution.
  
• Take enforcement actions in line with relevant legislation.
  
• Prepare and serve notices as necessary.
  
• Ensure compliance with environmental protection laws and council policies.
  

Inspections & Investigations

• Conduct site visits and inspections.
  
• Gather evidence and maintain detailed case records.
  
• Assess environmental risks and monitor compliance with legal requirements.
  

Case Management

• Manage a diverse caseload of environmental protection issues.
  
• Prioritize cases based on risk and service demands.
  
• Maintain accurate records and prepare reports for management and legal proceedings.
  

Legal & Regulatory Compliance

• Apply environmental health legislation and regulatory guidance.
  
• Prepare evidence for prosecutions and attend court as required.
  
• Collaborate with legal services on enforcement cases.
  

Stakeholder Engagement

• Provide professional advice to residents, businesses, and stakeholders.
  
• Liaise with internal departments, elected members, and external agencies.
  
• Respond to enquiries and service requests professionally.
  

Service Improvement

• Contribute to service development and continuous improvement initiatives.
  
• Support the achievement of Environmental Health performance targets.
  
• Promote good environmental practices and community wellbeing.
  

Working Environment

• Office, site-based, and fieldwork activities as required.
  
• Regular visits to residential, commercial, and public premises.

Person Specification

Qualifications

• Degree or equivalent qualification in Environmental Health or a related discipline.
  
• Eligibility to practice within Environmental Health.
  

• Chartered status or membership of a relevant professional body (e.g., CIEH).
  

Knowledge

• Detailed knowledge of Environmental Protection legislation.
  
• Understanding of statutory nuisance investigations and enforcement.
  
• Knowledge of environmental health regulatory frameworks.
  

Experience

• Experience in Environmental Health or Environmental Protection.
  
• Experience investigating environmental complaints and nuisance cases.
  
• Experience in inspections, enforcement, and regulatory activities.
  

• Previous experience within a local authority or council Environmental Health service.
  
• Experience managing complex statutory nuisance and environmental protection cases.

Additional Information

• This is a 6-month temporary contract.
  
• Rate: £40.00 per hour (Umbrella).
