1 Year Contract With A Local Authority


Job Purpose

To ensure the fair, secure, and compliant conduct of examinations by supervising candidates in accordance with examination board regulations. The role supports the safe delivery of exams by maintaining strict exam conditions, preventing malpractice, and ensuring all candidates have an equal and uninterrupted assessment experience.




Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise candidates before, during, and after examinations in accordance with awarding body regulations.
  • Set up examination rooms, ensuring seating, equipment, and materials are correctly arranged.
  • Distribute and collect exam papers and materials securely and accurately.
  • Enforce exam conditions, ensuring silence and compliance with all rules and instructions.
  • Monitor candidates closely to prevent and detect any form of malpractice or irregular behaviour.
  • Provide clear instructions to candidates as required, without offering assistance on exam content.
  • Record attendance, absences, incidents, and any irregularities accurately.
  • Report any breaches of exam regulations to the senior invigilator or exams officer immediately.
  • Assist with the secure handling and storage of confidential exam materials before and after sessions.
  • Support candidates with approved access arrangements where applicable (e.g. extra time, reader/scribe support).
  • Ensure examination venues are left clean, secure, and ready for subsequent sessions.


Requirements

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow strict procedures and regulations.
  • Ability to remain calm, vigilant, and professional in a quiet, controlled environment.
  • Good communication skills and ability to give clear, concise instructions.
  • Reliability and punctuality, with flexibility to work during exam periods (often mornings, afternoons, and peak exam seasons).
  • Ability to work as part of a team under the direction of the exams officer or senior invigilator.
  • No formal qualifications required, but prior experience in invigilation, education, or similar supervisory roles is desirable.
  • Understanding of confidentiality and safeguarding requirements in an educational setting.
  • Ability to stand and move around exam rooms for extended periods if required.
