Job description

4 - 5 Month Contract With A Local Authority


Job Purpose

To oversee and manage the council’s fleet operations, ensuring full compliance with legal and safety standards, while delivering cost-effective and efficient vehicle lifecycle management across all services.




Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure fleet compliance with all relevant legislation, regulations, and health & safety requirements.
  • Manage the full vehicle lifecycle, including procurement, maintenance, replacement strategies, and disposal.
  • Monitor and control fleet-related budgets, ensuring cost efficiency and value for money.
  • Oversee and manage contracts with external suppliers, ensuring service delivery meets agreed standards.
  • Maintain accurate fleet records, compliance documentation, and reporting systems.
  • Identify and mitigate risks associated with fleet operations, implementing continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Analyse data and performance metrics to inform decision-making and optimise fleet performance.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders and departments to support operational needs.
  • Produce reports and provide expert advice on fleet management and compliance matters.


Requirements

  • Demonstrable experience in fleet management and compliance.
  • Proven experience managing vehicle lifecycle costs and replacement programmes.
  • Experience managing external suppliers and contracts.
  • Strong organisational skills with excellent attention to detail.
  • Confident working with data, systems, and compliance documentation.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, including report writing.
  • Proactive approach to risk management and continuous improvement.
  • Understanding of health & safety requirements (qualification desirable).
  • CPC in Road Haulage or Passenger Transport Operations (desirable).

  • Hours: 37 Hours Per Week
