Job description
4 - 5 Month Contract With A Local Authority
Job Purpose
To oversee and manage the council’s fleet operations, ensuring full compliance with legal and safety standards, while delivering cost-effective and efficient vehicle lifecycle management across all services.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure fleet compliance with all relevant legislation, regulations, and health & safety requirements.
- Manage the full vehicle lifecycle, including procurement, maintenance, replacement strategies, and disposal.
- Monitor and control fleet-related budgets, ensuring cost efficiency and value for money.
- Oversee and manage contracts with external suppliers, ensuring service delivery meets agreed standards.
- Maintain accurate fleet records, compliance documentation, and reporting systems.
- Identify and mitigate risks associated with fleet operations, implementing continuous improvement initiatives.
- Analyse data and performance metrics to inform decision-making and optimise fleet performance.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders and departments to support operational needs.
- Produce reports and provide expert advice on fleet management and compliance matters.
Requirements
- Demonstrable experience in fleet management and compliance.
- Proven experience managing vehicle lifecycle costs and replacement programmes.
- Experience managing external suppliers and contracts.
- Strong organisational skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Confident working with data, systems, and compliance documentation.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, including report writing.
- Proactive approach to risk management and continuous improvement.
- Understanding of health & safety requirements (qualification desirable).
- CPC in Road Haulage or Passenger Transport Operations (desirable).

- Ability to travel across the borough as required.

- Location: Loughborough - Borough-wide (travel required)
- Hours: 37 Hours Per Week
- Pay: Bi-weekly payments
