2 Month Contract With A Local Authority


Job Purpose

We are currently seeking a skilled and experienced FRA Carpenter to carry out fire safety remedial works across [insert area or organisation]. The role focuses on the installation and upgrading of fire doors, frames, and associated passive fire protection works in line with current legislation and British Standards.

This is a key position within our compliance and fire safety programme, requiring precision, professionalism, and an understanding of fire protection systems. The successful candidate will be issued with a company van and must hold a full UK driving licence.



Key Responsibilities:

  • Install and upgrade fire-rated doorsets and frames to comply with current fire safety regulations.

  • Carry out repairs to fire doors, including minor adjustments and component replacement.

  • Fit fire-resistant plasterboard, intumescent strips, smoke seals, and ironmongery in line with fire compartmentation standards.

  • Install electrical enclosures in compliance with passive fire protection requirements.

  • Conduct fire stopping works, including sealing penetrations with approved fire-rated materials.

  • Ensure work meets British Standards and internal quality control procedures.

  • Carry out detailed record keeping, including before-and-after photos, component logs, and inspection reports.

  • Work from Fire Risk Assessments (FRAs) and interpret technical specifications correctly.

  • Engage with residents or building users in a polite and professional manner when working in occupied properties.

  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment in accordance with health and safety protocols.

  • Report any non-compliant works or hazards to supervisors promptly.


Requirements:

  • Proven experience in fire door installation, repair, and maintenance.

  • Good knowledge of fire door components, such as closers, hinges, intumescent strips, and seals.

  • Experience in fire stopping and compartmentation works.

  • Strong understanding of British Standards related to fire safety (e.g., BS 8214, BS 476, BS EN 1634).

  • Full UK driving licence – a van will be provided.

  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and fire risk assessments.

  • High standards of quality control, with a methodical and detail-oriented approach.

  • Basic admin and record-keeping skills, including the use of mobile apps or reporting systems.

  • Strong customer service skills, with the ability to work respectfully in residents’ homes or occupied buildings.

  • A proactive, innovative mind-set and ability to work independently or as part of a wider fire safety team.
