5-6 Months Contract with Local Authority
Summary
- The Gardener plays a vital role in maintaining clean, safe, and attractive outdoor environments across council estates. This includes the upkeep of communal gardens, pathways, play areas, estate entrances, and other shared green spaces. The role supports community wellbeing by ensuring outdoor areas are welcoming, well-maintained, and compliant with health and safety standards. The post holder must be able to drive a 3.5‑tonne van; trailer experience is desirable but not essential.
Responsibilities
- Maintain lawns, hedges, shrubs, flower beds, and communal garden areas across council estates.
- Carry out regular litter picking and remove waste from public outdoor areas.
- Ensure pathways, entrances, and shared spaces remain clean, safe, and free from hazards.
- Complete seasonal tasks including leaf clearance, snow removal, and gritting to maintain safe access.
- Monitor estates for issues such as fly-tipping, vandalism, damaged furniture/play equipment, and report concerns to the relevant council team.
Essential Experience Required
- Must be able to drive a 3.5‑tonne van (trailer towing experience desirable but not essential).
- Previous experience in grounds maintenance, landscaping, horticulture, or estate upkeep.
- Ability to safely operate and maintain groundskeeping tools and machinery.
Essential Qualifications Required
- Full UK driving licence (mandatory for operating a 3.5‑tonne van).
- Grounds maintenance, horticulture, or landscaping training/certification (desirable but not essential).
- Health & Safety and manual handling training (desirable).
