1 Month Contract With A Local Authority

To carry out high-quality grounds and cemetery maintenance, ensuring the site is maintained to a clean, safe, attractive, and respectful standard. The role involves grass cutting, horticultural work, general grounds maintenance, and supporting cemetery and ceremonial activities as required.

Key Responsibilities

• Cut grass using pedestrian and ride-on mowers.
  
• Strim around obstacles, trees, headstones, fences, borders, and other areas inaccessible to mowers.
  
• Trim and maintain hedges, shrubs, and small trees.
  
• Carry out pruning, planting, watering, weeding, and general horticultural tasks.
  
• Weed hard and soft landscaped areas using approved methods.
  
• Clean paths, roads, car parks, and other public areas.
  
• Carry out general cemetery maintenance and ensure grounds are maintained to an appropriate and respectful standard.
  
• Assist with setting up for funerals and other ceremonial events when requested.
  
• Safely operate and maintain grounds maintenance machinery, including mowers, strimmers, hedge cutters, blowers, and other powered equipment.
  
• Carry out daily vehicle and machinery inspections and report defects promptly.
  
• Maintain tools and equipment in a clean, safe, and serviceable condition.
  
• Work safely in accordance with Health and Safety legislation, risk assessments, and safe systems of work.
  
• Report hazards, vandalism, defects, accidents, and health and safety concerns promptly.
  
• Communicate professionally and courteously with members of the public, visitors, funeral directors, contractors, and colleagues.
  
• Undertake winter maintenance duties, including gritting and snow clearance, where required.
  
• Assist with other duties appropriate to the role as directed by management.
  

Health and Safety

The post holder is responsible for:

• Following all Health and Safety policies and procedures.
  
• Wearing appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  
• Reporting accidents, incidents, and near misses.
  
• Operating machinery only when trained and authorised.
  
• Using safe manual handling techniques at all times.
  

Requirements

Essential

• Experience in grounds maintenance, landscaping, horticulture, or a similar role.
  
• Ability to operate grounds maintenance machinery safely.
  
• Good knowledge of safe working practices.
  
• Physically fit and able to undertake manual outdoor work in all weather conditions.
  
• Good communication and teamwork skills.
  
• Full UK Driving Licence.
  
• Reliable, punctual, and able to work with minimal supervision.
  

Working Conditions

• Outdoor work in all weather conditions.
  
• Regular lifting, bending, kneeling, and manual handling.
  
• Use of noisy and vibrating machinery.
  
• Occasional weekend, bank holiday, or seasonal working may be required.

Additional Information

Location: Jackson Road, Holbrook Cemetery

Hours per Week: 37 hours per week — Monday to Thursday, 8:00am–4:00pm; Friday, 8:00am–3:30pm, including a 30-minute unpaid lunch break.

Bi-Weekly Payments: Salary/wages are paid bi-weekly.

Contract: Ongoing requirement
