Job description

6 months contract with a Local Authority
Job Summary:
• A strategic leadership role responsible for overseeing school effectiveness, early years, governance, and education safeguarding across a locality.
• The postholder will be accountable for shaping and delivering education improvement strategies to ensure high-quality outcomes for children and young people aged 0–16.
• The role requires strong collaboration with multi-agency services and alignment with broader education policy frameworks.

Key Duties/Accountabilities (Sample):
• Develop and implement strategic business plans for education improvement and quality assurance
• Lead statutory school improvement functions in line with national legislation and policy
• Provide strategic oversight of early years, school governance, and education safeguarding
• Champion school leadership and governance development to raise attainment and standards
• Collaborate across services including inclusion, early help, and social care to drive equitable access and outcomes
• Ensure services are evidence-led and performance-driven, using data and evaluation for continual improvement
• Advise senior leadership and elected members on policy, performance, and resource allocation
• Lead and motivate multi-disciplinary teams and embed a culture of continuous professional development
• Represent the organisation at regional and national forums to influence education agendas and share best practice
• Ensure compliance with statutory requirements, including Ofsted expectations and data reporting standards

Skills/Experience:
• Significant senior leadership experience within education improvement or school effectiveness
• Strong understanding of national education policy, local authority duties, and performance frameworks
• Proven track record of delivering service improvement in complex environments
• Financial and resource management experience within constrained budgets
• Experience of cross-agency collaboration, particularly with inclusion, safeguarding, and social care services
• Ability to lead large teams and foster a culture of continuous improvement
• Skilled in strategic planning, stakeholder engagement, and risk-based decision-making
• Excellent interpersonal, influencing, and negotiation skills
• High-level analytical, data interpretation, and reporting skills
• Experience across multiple education phases (e.g., early years and secondary)
• Change management and organisational development experience
• Familiarity with inspection frameworks, including Ofsted and performance benchmarking
• Understanding of corporate parenting and supporting children in care

Additional Information:
• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
• Hours per Week: 37 hours.
