3 month contract role with a Local Authority
Job Summary:
• The London Borough of Lambeth is seeking Housing Advisors to join the Homelessness Prevention team.
• The role focuses on preventing and relieving homelessness through effective case management, housing advice, and the application of relevant legislation, including the Homelessness Reduction Act and Housing Act 1996.
Key Duties/Accountabilities (Sample):
• Manage a complex caseload focused on homelessness prevention and housing needs.
• Conduct housing needs assessments and develop personalised housing plans.
• Provide advice, advocacy, negotiation, and mediation to prevent homelessness.
• Assess homelessness applications under Part VII of the Housing Act 1996.
• Deliver front-line housing advice services via face-to-face, telephone, and appointments.
• Work with landlords, tenants, and partners to sustain tenancies and prevent evictions.
• Assess suitability of housing options, including private rented sector and temporary accommodation.
• Support vulnerable individuals and households, including those affected by welfare reform.
• Maintain accurate case records and meet performance targets.
• Liaise with internal teams and external agencies to deliver effective housing solutions.
Skills/Experience:
• Strong knowledge of homelessness legislation, including the Homelessness Reduction Act and Housing Act 1996.
• Experience working in a housing, homelessness, or local authority environment.
• Proven ability to manage a high-volume and complex caseload.
• Experience supporting vulnerable clients in a customer-facing role.
• Strong negotiation, mediation, and advocacy skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience handling complaints and providing housing advice.
• Ability to work under pressure and manage conflicting priorities.
• Competent in using IT systems for case management and reporting.
• Understanding of welfare benefits and housing options.
Additional Information:
• Bi-Weekly Payments.
• Client: London Borough of Lambeth.
• Location: Brixton Hill, London (minimum 2 days in office).
• Contract: Temporary (12 weeks).
• Hours: 35 hours per week.
• Rate: £30.67 Umbrella per hour.
