3 months contract with a local authority

Job Purpose

  • The Housing Register Assessment Officer is responsible for the effective administration and maintenance of the Council’s Housing Register, ensuring compliance with the Housing Act 1996 (Part VI & VII as amended), the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017, the Council’s Allocation Scheme, and all other relevant housing legislation.

Key Duties/Accountabilities

  • Interpret and apply relevant housing legislation, policy, case law, and statutory guidance to accurately assess housing applications and award priority banding.
  • Manage and maintain the Housing Register in line with statutory requirements and the Council’s Allocation Scheme.
  • Deliver professional, comprehensive housing advice to applicants and customers.
  • Work with the Rehousing Team Manager to contribute to a clear, innovative service vision and ensure consistent delivery of highquality outcomes.
  • Promote and support digital processes across the service to streamline and improve customer experience.
  • Build and maintain positive working relationships with customers, stakeholders, partners, and internal teams.
  • Represent the Council at user groups, meetings, or partnership forums as required.
  • Attend offsite meetings using public transport, own vehicle, or a Council vehicle (subject to availability).
  • Undertake any additional duties appropriate to the grade and nature of the role.

Essential Experience Required

  • Relevant professional qualification or equivalent work experience demonstrating strong aptitude in English and numeracy.
  • Good understanding of safeguarding principles appropriate to the role.
  • Experience working within a local authority, registered social landlord, or similarly complex organisation.
  • Proven experience delivering customer service in a frontline environment.

Essential Qualifications Required

  • A relevant housing, public sector, or social policy qualification is desirable, OR
  • Demonstrable equivalent experience in housing assessments, local authority work, or a related customer-focused role.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development in housing or public sector services is an advantage.

  • Working hours: 37 hours per week
  • We work on Bi weekly payment schedule
