1 month contract with a Local Authority
Job Title: Kitchen Assistant
Job Purpose
To support the efficient delivery of a safe, high-quality
lunch service for approximately 20 pupils at Middleton Primary School. The
Kitchen Assistant will be responsible for food service, maintaining excellent
hygiene standards, ensuring compliance with food safety and health & safety
procedures, and carrying out general housekeeping duties within the kitchen and
dining areas.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve
meals to pupils in a professional, friendly, and efficient manner.
- Support
the daily lunch service for approximately 20 pupils.
- Ensure
all food is presented and served in accordance with food safety standards.
- Maintain
high standards of cleanliness throughout the kitchen and serving areas.
- Carry
out washing up, cleaning, and sanitising of kitchen equipment, utensils,
and work surfaces.
- Follow
all Food Safety, HACCP, and Health & Safety procedures.
- Assist
with setting up and clearing down service areas before and after lunch.
- Monitor
food temperatures where required and complete relevant records.
- Adhere
to allergen management procedures and school catering policies.
- Dispose
of waste safely and maintain good housekeeping practices.
- Report
any maintenance, safety, or hygiene concerns to the appropriate
supervisor.
- Ensure
a positive dining experience for pupils and staff.
- Comply
with safeguarding policies and procedures at all times.
Experience Required
Essential
- Previous
experience working in a catering, kitchen, hospitality, or food service
environment.
- Understanding
of basic food hygiene and kitchen safety practices.
- Ability
to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good
communication and customer service skills.
- Reliable,
punctual, and organised approach to work.
Desirable
- Previous
experience within a school, education, or contract catering environment.
- Experience
serving meals to children or large groups.
Qualifications
Essential
- Enhanced
DBS Check (or willingness to obtain one).
- Basic
understanding of Food Safety and Health & Safety requirements.
Desirable
- Level
1 or Level 2 Food Safety & Hygiene Certificate.
- Manual
Handling or Health & Safety training.

Additional Information
- Pay
Rate: £15.37 per hour
- Hours: 10 hours per week
- Position: Kitchen Assistant
- Location: Middleton Primary School, Rectory Road, Middleton, Suffolk, IP17 3NR
- Working
Hours: Monday–Friday, 11:30–13:30
- DBS
Requirement: Enhanced DBS Check (or willingness to obtain one).
