3 Month Contract with A Local Authority


Role Overview

The post holder will be responsible for carrying out plumbing, mechanical, and electrical repairs, planned preventative maintenance, renewals, and replacements within commercial-type buildings, including schools, children’s centres, and other premises of varying sizes.

Your work will include:

  • Routine reactive repairs
  • Planned maintenance
  • Statutory testing
  • Some design and installation tasks

All works must be completed in accordance with industry standards (e.g., SGF20, CIBSE), building and statutory regulations, British Standards, and manufacturers’ operating and maintenance manuals.

You will use your expertise to diagnose compliance issues and asset failures and determine the most effective solutions to resolve repair problems. A key objective is to maintain properties so that the staff and service users experience no disruption due to plant failure or general repairs.




Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) repairs and maintenance across multiple sites.
  • Conduct planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and statutory compliance inspections.
  • Diagnose faults and recommend cost-effective repair or replacement solutions.
  • Assist with the design and installation of new systems as required.
  • Ensure all works meet industry standards, statutory regulations, and health and safety requirements.
  • Use technology to record works, manage schedules, and optimize building performance.
  • Liaise with staff, contractors, and stakeholders to ensure minimal disruption to services.
  • Contribute to long-term maintenance strategies and energy-efficient solutions.


Requirements

  • Skilled in at least two MEP disciplines (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing).
  • Recognised qualification (e.g., NVQ Level 3 or City & Guilds) in relevant discipline(s).
  • Practical experience in commercial building maintenance and repair, ideally in education settings.
  • Ability to read drawings, O&M manuals, and identify defects accurately.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to provide cost-effective solutions.
  • Excellent communication and customer care skills.
  • Knowledge of statutory compliance, health and safety, and safe systems of work.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and contribute to building maintenance strategies.
  • Experience using digital tools for maintenance management.
  • Understanding of energy efficiency and sustainability initiatives in building services.
  • Experience in multi-site facilities management.
