2 -3 Month Contract With a Local Authority


Job Purpose:

To deliver high-quality building repairs, maintenance, renewals, and replacements across a range of trade disciplines. This role involves working on both occupied and void Council-owned housing properties and premises, including large-scale programmed refurbishments and occupational therapy adaptations. You will be expected to carry out work in accordance with best trade practices, ensuring compliance with current standards, regulations, and health & safety requirements.

As a Multi Trader at mid-level (L3Z2), you must be fully competent in at least four key trade disciplines from the following:
Plumbing, Carpentry, Plastering, Electrical (including Part P), Tiling, Painting & Decorating, and Gas Safe.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Carry out day-to-day responsive repairs, planned maintenance, and refurbishment works on a wide range of domestic and non-domestic properties.

  • Work independently or as part of a team to complete multi-trade tasks to a professional standard in at least four core trade areas.

  • Undertake adaptation works as prescribed by occupational therapists, including level access showers, handrails, ramps, etc.

  • Diagnose faults, plan remedial actions, and complete repairs or installations efficiently and to the required quality.

  • Ensure all works are completed in line with current building regulations, safety standards, and Council policies.

  • Accurately complete job reports, timesheets, and material requests using handheld devices or paperwork, as required.

  • Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly working environment, both in the workplace and on site.

  • Liaise with tenants, clients, colleagues, and supervisors in a professional and respectful manner.

  • Identify and report any safeguarding or health and safety concerns encountered during visits.

  • Drive and maintain a Council vehicle (if applicable), ensuring tools and materials are secure and vehicle checks are completed regularly.


Essential Requirements:

  • NVQ Level 2 or 3 (or equivalent) in a core trade (e.g., Plumbing, Carpentry, etc.)

  • Demonstrated competency in at least four trade disciplines:
    Plumbing / Carpentry / Plastering / Electrical (including Part P) / Tiling / Painting & Decorating / Gas Safe

  • Valid CSCS card (or willingness to obtain)

  • Full UK Driving Licence (manual)

  • Proven experience working across multiple trades in domestic settings

  • Experience with both responsive repairs and planned works/refurbishments

  • Previous work in social housing or local authority settings is desirable
