6 Month Contract With A Local Authority


Job Purpose

To support the delivery of major and strategic development projects by managing the discharge of planning conditions and obligations, assessing amendments under Sections 96A and 73 of the Town and Country Planning Act, and providing high-quality pre-application advice in line with adopted and emerging planning policy. The role offers the opportunity to develop expertise in major applications and progress toward acting as a case officer.




Key Responsibilities

  • Assess and determine applications for the discharge of planning conditions related to major and strategic developments.
  • Manage and process amendments to planning permissions under Sections 96A and 73 of the Town and Country Planning Act.
  • Support the monitoring and implementation of planning obligations associated with large-scale developments.
  • Provide clear, accurate pre-application advice to developers in accordance with adopted and emerging local and national planning policies.
  • Liaise with internal departments, external stakeholders, and statutory consultees to ensure coordinated and timely decision-making.
  • Contribute to the delivery of high-quality development outcomes aligned with strategic planning objectives.
  • Maintain accurate records and prepare reports, correspondence, and recommendations as required.
  • Assist in progressing toward handling major planning applications as a case officer, where appropriate.


Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a development management or planning-related role.
  • Good working knowledge of the UK planning system, including experience with major applications and planning legislation.
  • Understanding of the Town and Country Planning Act, particularly Sections 96A and 73.
  • Degree-level education in a relevant subject (e.g., town planning, urban planning, geography) or equivalent professional experience.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and organisational skills.
  • Ability to interpret planning policy and apply it effectively in decision-making.
  • Experience engaging with developers, stakeholders, and consultees in a professional context.
