Planning Officer – 4 Month Contract


Location: Barnet, London
Rate: £32.46 per hour (Umbrella)
Contract: 4 Month Contract
Hours: Full Time
Working Pattern: Hybrid Working – Office Attendance Required Every Tuesday & Wednesday
Pay: Bi-weekly

Summary


We are seeking a skilled Planning Officer to join our dynamic Planning and Building Control Service on a temporary basis. This role is integral to managing a diverse range of planning functions, allowing you to handle your own caseload while ensuring the delivery of top-tier planning services aligned with council priorities, legislation, and performance standards. The position offers a unique rotation program, providing exposure to various planning specialisms and the chance to expand your professional experience.

Responsibilities


  • Manage a caseload of planning applications and related casework.
  • Assess and determine planning applications in accordance with planning legislation and policy.
  • Prepare reports, recommendations, and decision notices.
  • Provide professional planning advice to applicants, residents, councillors, and stakeholders.
  • Conduct site visits and attend meetings as required.
  • Negotiate planning solutions and recommend appropriate outcomes.
  • Contribute to planning policy, development management, and other service areas as needed.
  • Collaborate with internal departments and external agencies.
  • Ensure work meets agreed quality standards and statutory timescales.
  • Support the broader Planning and Building Control Service in achieving its objectives.

Requirements

Requirements:

  • Experience in a Planning Service, Local Authority, or similar planning environment.
  • Proven ability to manage planning applications and casework.
  • Strong knowledge of planning legislation, policy, and development management processes.
  • Excellent report-writing and analytical skills.
  • Proficient communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Experience providing planning advice and recommendations.
  • Capability to work independently and as part of a team.

Desirable


  • Degree or qualification in Town Planning or a related discipline.
  • Membership of RTPI or working towards professional accreditation.
  • Experience across multiple planning specialisms.
  • Local Government planning experience.
