Job Title: Plumber
Job Purpose
To deliver a high-quality responsive repairs and maintenance
service across the Council's housing stock, specialising in first and second
fix plumbing installations, maintenance, and repairs. The post holder will
diagnose and resolve plumbing issues efficiently, ensuring repairs are
completed right first time while providing excellent customer service to
tenants and residents.
Working within occupied and void properties, the Multi
Trades Operative will also undertake associated multi-skilled repairs where
appropriate to support the effective maintenance of Council homes.
Key Responsibilities
Plumbing Repairs and Maintenance
- Carry
out first and second fix plumbing works within Council-owned residential
properties.
- Diagnose
and repair plumbing faults including leaks, pipework, sanitary ware, taps,
toilets, sinks, baths, showers, and drainage systems.
- Install,
maintain, and replace plumbing fixtures and fittings.
- Complete
repairs in occupied and void properties to agreed standards and
timescales.
- Identify
additional repair requirements and report them appropriately.
Multi-Trade Duties
- Undertake
basic repairs across other trade disciplines where competent, including
carpentry, plastering, tiling, and general maintenance.
- Assist
colleagues and support service delivery across the Repairs and Maintenance
Team.
- Ensure
all work is completed safely and in accordance with current regulations
and best practice.
Customer Service
- Provide
a professional, courteous, and customer-focused service.
- Communicate
effectively with tenants, keeping them informed of work progress and any
delays.
- Treat
customers' homes with respect and ensure work areas are left clean and
safe upon completion.
Vehicle, Tools and Materials
- Take
responsibility for the Council vehicle allocated for work use.
- Ensure
vehicle stock, tools, and materials are maintained and accounted for.
- Report
defects, damage, or shortages promptly.
Health & Safety
- Comply
with Health and Safety legislation, policies, and procedures.
- Use
appropriate PPE and safe working practices at all times.
- Identify
and report hazards, incidents, and unsafe conditions.
Essential Experience
- Minimum
2 years' experience within a plumbing trade environment.
- Experience
carrying out first and second fix plumbing installations and repairs.
- Experience
working in domestic properties, including occupied homes.
- Ability
to diagnose faults and complete repairs independently.
- Experience
working within health and safety procedures.
Essential Qualifications
- NVQ
Level 2 or equivalent qualification in Plumbing.
- Relevant
trade certification in a plumbing discipline.
- Full
UK Driving Licence.

This role is ideal for an experienced plumber looking to
work within a social housing environment, delivering essential repairs and
maintenance services to Council tenants across Redditch and the surrounding
area.

- Location: Redditch, B98 7SN
- Hours: 37 hours per week
- Working Pattern: Monday to Friday, 8:00am to 4:00pm
- Rate of Pay: £21.13 per hour (Umbrella)
- Vehicle: Council vehicle provided for business
use only
