4 Month Contract With A local Authority
Job Purpose
The Practice Supervisor (G11) provides professional leadership, supervision, and support to a team of qualified social workers within Children's Safeguarding. The role ensures the delivery of high-quality, child-centred safeguarding services that promote positive outcomes for children and families. The postholder is responsible for overseeing complex casework, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements, driving excellent social work practice, and supporting the development and performance of staff.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide day-to-day supervision, guidance, and support to qualified social workers and other practitioners within the Children's Safeguarding team.
- Manage the allocation and oversight of complex child protection, child in need, and looked after children cases.
- Ensure assessments, plans, and interventions are completed to a high professional standard and within statutory timescales.
- Monitor performance, quality assurance, and compliance with relevant legislation, policies, and safeguarding procedures.
- Lead on reflective supervision, case audits, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Support recruitment, induction, mentoring, and professional development of team members.
- Promote effective multi-agency working to safeguard children and improve outcomes for families.
- Provide advice and decision-making support on complex safeguarding matters and risk management.
- Deputise for the Team Manager when required and contribute to service planning and operational delivery.
- Foster a culture of continuous learning, accountability, and high-quality social work practice.
Requirements
Essential
- Social Work qualification (Degree, DipSW, CQSW or equivalent).
- Registration with Social Work England.
- Significant post-qualification experience within Children's Social Care, including safeguarding and child protection.
- Experience of supervising or mentoring social workers and managing complex casework.
- Sound knowledge of relevant legislation, statutory guidance, and safeguarding procedures.
- Excellent assessment, analytical, communication, and decision-making skills.
- Ability to lead, motivate, and develop staff while maintaining high professional standards.
Desirable
- Practice Educator qualification or equivalent supervisory training.
- Experience of quality assurance, auditing, and service improvement.
- Leadership or management qualification.
