Job description
6 months contract with a local authority
Job Purpose
- To provide a safe
crossing service for pedestrians, particularly children and vulnerable
individuals, during school opening and closing times. The post holder will play
a key role in supporting the local community by ensuring roads are safe to
cross and helping to protect children travelling to and from school.
Key Duties/Accountabilities
- Safely control traffic at the designated crossing point to
allow pedestrians to cross the road.
- Give clear and authoritative signals to drivers, ensuring
traffic remains stationary until the crossing is clear.
- Have due regard for individuals with disabilities,
particularly those with mobility impairments.
- Maintain regular communication with the school(s) attended
by children using the crossing.
- Regularly assess risks at the crossing point and report any
safety concerns, defects, or incidents to the supervisor.
- Assist with the preparation of reports relating to
accidents, near misses, or failure‑to‑stop incidents.
- Ensure all uniform and equipment provided is kept in good
condition and request replacements when necessary.
Essential Experience Required
- Experience working in a customer‑facing or
community‑based role (desirable).
- Experience interacting with members of the public in a calm
and professional manner.
- Ability to follow procedures and work independently.
Essential Qualifications Required
- No formal
qualifications required, as full training will be provided.
- Must be reliable,
punctual, and physically able to carry out the duties of the role in all
weather conditions.
- Willingness to
undertake required training and comply with safeguarding standards.
- DBS check required,
with registration to the DBS Update Service if applicable.
Additional information to note
- Working Hours: 7.5 hours per week, term-time only.
- The role required DBS.
- This position is for 7.5 hours per week approximately. You
will need to be available to work during the 39 weeks of the academic year, for
45 minutes between 08:00 - 09:00 in the morning and 45 minutes between 14:45 -
15:45 in the afternoon approximately, depending on individual site
requirements. Uniform, equipment, and training will be provided.
