4-month contract role with a local authority

Summary

  • This is a 4-month contract role with a local authority, aimed at providing professional, responsive, and customer-focused HR advice and support to schools that purchase the HR service. As a trusted advisor, the role supports school leaders and managers with a full range of employee relations and people management matters. The position ensures compliance with employment legislation, school policies, and best practices while delivering a high-quality service that inspires confidence.

Responsibilities

  • Provide timely, accurate, and practical HR advice to headteachers, senior leaders, and school managers on a wide range of people-related matters.
  • Advise on employee relations cases, including disciplinary, grievance, capability, attendance management, and performance issues.
  • Support schools with recruitment and selection processes, ensuring fair and inclusive practices.
  • Guide managers on employment legislation, HR policies, procedures, and best practices.
  • Assist with workforce planning, organizational change, restructures, and consultation processes where required.
  • Attend meetings, hearings, and appeals, providing professional HR advice and support.
  • Produce and review HR documentation, reports, correspondence, and case records.

Requirements:

  • Essential Experience Required:
    • Experience in providing HR advice across a broad range of employee relations matters.
    • Experience in supporting managers with disciplinary, grievance, performance, and absence management cases.
    • Experience in interpreting and applying employment legislation and HR policies.
  • Essential Qualifications Required:
    • CIPD Level 5 qualification (or equivalent HR qualification) or significant relevant HR experience.
    • Educated to A-Level standard or equivalent.

Additional Information

  • Working hours: 37 hours per week.
  • Hybrid working: Minimum one day a week at Loxley House, especially important for those who haven't advised schools before.
  • We work on a bi-weekly schedule.
