Job description
6-month contract role with a local authority
Summary
- This is a 6-month contract role with a local authority, aimed at leading the design, development, and delivery of various highway, traffic, active travel, road safety, and public realm improvement schemes. The postholder will manage engineering projects from concept to implementation, ensuring adherence to relevant legislation, design standards, and Council objectives while achieving high-quality, customer-focused outcomes.
Responsibilities
- Lead and support the delivery of highways, traffic management, road safety, cycling, and public realm improvement schemes.
- Prepare, review, and develop engineering designs, specifications, and technical reports.
- Ensure projects are delivered within agreed programs, budgets, and quality standards.
- Produce detailed engineering drawings and designs using AutoCAD.
- Undertake site surveys and assessments to gather data for design and project development.
- Manage project risks and ensure compliance with health and safety requirements.
Requirements
Essential Experience Required
- Significant experience in highway, traffic, transport, or civil engineering.
- Proven experience designing and delivering highways, road safety, and active travel schemes.
- Strong practical experience using AutoCAD in a highways engineering environment.
Essential Qualifications Required
- Degree or equivalent qualification in Civil Engineering, Highway Engineering, Traffic Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Membership of, or eligibility for membership of, a relevant professional institution (e.g., ICE, CIHT).
- Demonstrable post-qualification experience in highways and/or civil engineering.
