2 Month Contract With A Local Authority


Job Purpose

To provide expert legal advice and representation on complex education law matters, supporting the Council's Adults, Education and Employment service. The role is responsible for managing a team of legal professionals, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, timely, and effective legal services while contributing to the strategic objectives of the Council.




Key Responsibilities

  • Provide specialist legal advice on a broad range of education law matters.
  • Manage a caseload of complex, high-profile, and sensitive legal cases.
  • Represent the Council in negotiations, tribunals, court proceedings, and other legal forums where required.
  • Lead, supervise, and develop a team of legal professionals, providing effective performance management and professional support.
  • Manage up to six directly reporting staff and oversee up to fifteen consultancy or contract staff as required.
  • Ensure legal services are delivered in accordance with legislation, professional standards, and Council policies.
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with internal departments, external legal representatives, and key stakeholders.
  • Contribute to service planning, continuous improvement, and the development of legal policies and procedures.
  • Support the delivery of strategic projects and organisational priorities within the Adults, Education and Employment Team.


Requirements
  • Qualified Solicitor, Barrister, or Chartered Legal Executive with a current practising certificate (or equivalent professional qualification).
  • Significant post-qualification experience in education law.
  • Experience managing complex legal cases and providing strategic legal advice.
  • Proven leadership and people management experience.
  • Strong knowledge of relevant education legislation and local government legal frameworks.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and deliver high-quality work under pressure.
