2 months contract with a Local Authority

Job Summary:

• We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Senior Social Worker to join a dynamic Assessment and Short-Term Intervention (ASTI) team in South Birmingham.

• This role plays a vital part in safeguarding children and supporting families through high-quality, evidence-based social work.

• The successful candidate will have extensive experience in completing Section 17 and Section 47 assessments and will thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

• The post is within a well-established team supported by experienced managers and a stable leadership structure.

Key Duties/Accountabilities (Sample):

• Undertake comprehensive S17 (Child in Need) and S47 (Child Protection) assessments in line with statutory guidelines

• Operate on a 5-week duty cycle, ensuring timely completion of assessments and interventions

• Manage a varied and - complex caseload of children and families

• Work closely with multi-agency partners to ensure children’s safety and welfare

• Develop and implement child-centred care and protection plans

• Present cases clearly and confidently in strategy meetings, legal proceedings, and child protection conferences

• Maintain accurate, up-to-date case notes and statutory records in line with local procedures

• Participate in reflective supervision and contribute to team learning and development

• Attend the office a minimum of two days per week and be fully present during duty weeks

• Engage families respectfully, applying strengths-based and trauma-informed approaches

Skills/Experience:

• Proven experience conducting S17 and S47 assessments

• Skilled in managing complex cases, risk assessments, and safeguarding processes

• Strong knowledge of the Children Act 1989/2004, Working Together to Safeguard Children, and other relevant legislation

• Excellent report writing, analytical and case recording skills

• Able to work autonomously and collaboratively in a high-pressure environment

• Effective communicator with children, families, and professionals across disciplines

• Comfortable with hybrid working (office-based twice weekly, full office attendance during duty)

• Committed to promoting positive outcomes for children and young people

Additional Information:

• This is a full-time temporary role (36.5 hours per week).

• Standard working hours are 08:45 to 17:15, Monday to Friday.

• Duration: 25 August 2025 to 3 November 2025 (with potential extension)

• Qualified Social Worker with a minimum of 2 years' post-qualification experience in children's social care.

• Registered with Social Work England.
