Job description

3 Month Contract With A Local Authority


Role Purpose

To stabilise, restore, and improve the delivery of Waste Services by taking hands-on operational responsibility. The Service Improvement Lead will work embedded within the team to ensure services run efficiently, meet operational standards, and deliver expected outcomes.




Key Responsibilities

  • Take direct operational responsibility for day-to-day service delivery.
  • Identify operational failures, bottlenecks, and inefficiencies, implementing immediate fixes.
  • Provide hands-on leadership and support to managers, supervisors, and staff to improve service delivery.
  • Develop and implement workflows, processes, and operational standards.
  • Ensure compliance with council policies, statutory requirements, and best practice.
  • Monitor performance, producing regular operational reports and updates for senior management.
  • Support task allocation, supervision, and prioritisation of staff activities.
  • Liaise with stakeholders to resolve escalated issues promptly.


Requirements

  • Proven experience in turning around underperforming services.
  • Strong leadership, organisational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to lead and work alongside operational teams.
  • Experience managing staff, processes, and service delivery.
  • Knowledge of relevant statutory requirements and council policies is desirable.
