4-5 month contract with a local authority
Summary
- This 4-5 month contract with a local authority is focused on enhancing school attendance across Lewisham. The role involves providing expert advice, policy guidance, and case support to schools. It aims to identify pupils and groups at risk of poor attendance, develop targeted action plans, and ensure every child receives their full entitlement to education.
Responsibilities
- Lead termly targeted support meetings with schools, local authority colleagues, and external agencies.
- Identify children and groups at risk of poor attendance, persistent absence (PA), and severe absence (SA).
- Agree, record, and monitor action plans to support improved attendance.
- Provide schools with expert case guidance, policy interpretation, and recommended interventions.
Requirements
- Proven experience in school attendance, either within a school setting or a local authority.
- Experience analysing attendance or pupil data and using it to drive targeted actions.
- Strong background in working with vulnerable children, families, or multi-agency safeguarding contexts.
- Experience supporting schools with statutory guidance, policy interpretation, or procedural improvement.
- Good standard of general education (GCSEs or equivalent).
- Qualifications in education, safeguarding, social care, or related fields (desirable).

- Working hours: 35 hours per week
- Location: 1 Catford Road, Catford, London, Greater London, SE6 4RU, United Kingdom
- Work pattern: Most of the week will be based in schools with Friday a compulsory day in the office.
- DBS required.
- The interview will include evidence-based questions and an in-tray exercise.
- Interviews will be held at 1, Laurence House, Catford, London SE6 4RU.
- Bi-weekly payment schedule.
