3 Month Contract With A Local Authority



Job Purpose

To manage and coordinate the effective allocation and administration of temporary accommodation, including emergency and short-term placements, ensuring accommodation is used efficiently and residents receive appropriate support to move into settled housing. The postholder will work closely with accommodation providers, landlords, internal departments and residents to maintain high standards of service delivery, tenancy management and compliance with statutory and council requirements.




Key Responsibilities

  • Allocate and manage temporary accommodation placements, including emergency accommodation, ensuring efficient use of available housing stock.
  • Coordinate admissions, transfers and discharges from temporary accommodation in line with service procedures and housing duties.
  • Minimise the inappropriate use of shared accommodation for families with children and support residents to move on into suitable long-term housing.
  • Manage a caseload of residents living in temporary accommodation, including leased properties, hostels, direct lets, B&Bs and annexes.
  • Monitor and track occupancy, ensuring residents’ housing needs are assessed and appropriate support is provided.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date case records, housing application details and related documentation using internal IT systems.
  • Liaise effectively with accommodation providers, landlords, managing agents and out-of-hours services to ensure quality service delivery and contractual compliance.
  • Monitor the performance of temporary accommodation providers and take appropriate action where service standards are not met.
  • Investigate and respond to complaints, tenancy breaches and anti-social behaviour issues, taking remedial or enforcement action where necessary.
  • Conduct property visits to verify occupancy, inspect standards, address disrepair issues and ensure compliance with health and safety and legislative requirements.
  • Coordinate lease hand-backs, renewals and negotiations with landlords and managing agents to ensure continued supply of suitable temporary accommodation.
  • Work collaboratively with housing services and other council departments to promote an integrated approach to service delivery.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, council policies, safeguarding responsibilities, equality and diversity standards, and financial regulations.
  • Undertake any other duties appropriate to the grade and responsibilities of the post.


Requirements

  • Experience of working within housing, homelessness or temporary accommodation services.
  • Knowledge of temporary accommodation management, housing legislation and homelessness duties.
  • Experience managing casework and supporting vulnerable households.
  • Ability to manage tenancy-related issues, complaints and anti-social behaviour cases effectively.
  • Experience working with landlords, accommodation providers and external agencies.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and maintain accurate records.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build effective working relationships.
  • Ability to conduct property inspections and monitor accommodation standards.
  • Competent in the use of IT systems and case management databases.
  • Understanding of safeguarding, equality, diversity and customer service principles.
