Job Summary:
• Hampshire County Council is seeking a Care Assistant/Nursing HCA to join the team at Emsworth House, supporting older residents in a residential and nursing environment.
• The role involves attending to the personal care needs of residents, monitoring their wellbeing, and assisting with daily living activities while maintaining high standards of care.
• The postholder will work under the supervision of the Duty Officer (Senior Care Assistant, Unit Manager, or Assistant Manager) and may be responsible for key working 3–6 residents at any one time.
Key Duties/Accountabilities (Sample):
• Record and maintain residents’ personal care needs, complete daily contact sheets, and carry out routine risk assessments.
• Report any concerns about residents’ welfare to senior staff, ensuring continuity and quality of care.
• Build and maintain relationships with residents, acting as a key worker to promote their physical, emotional, and social wellbeing.
• Assist residents with personal hygiene, bathing, dressing, and mobility, using appropriate moving and handling equipment.
• Support housekeeping tasks within residents’ rooms and communal areas to maintain hygiene and comfort standards.
• Plan and participate in activities with residents as outlined in their care plans, such as gardening, cookery, or outings.
• Ensure compliance with corporate policies on health and safety, safeguarding, and equality.
• Liaise with colleagues, relatives, and health professionals regarding residents’ care and needs.
• Support residents through emotionally challenging situations, including illness, end-of-life care, and bereavement.
Skills/Experience:
• Experience in a care environment, ideally with older adults or residents with complex needs.
• Trained or willing to train in moving and handling equipment (hoists, glide sheets).
• Knowledge of health and safety, safeguarding, infection control, and administration of medicine.
• Ability to manage personal care tasks with patience, empathy, and respect for dignity.
• Good communication skills for interaction with residents, relatives, and colleagues.
• Physical ability to assist residents with mobility and personal care.
• Ability to record information accurately and follow care plans.
Additional Information:
• Location: Emsworth House, Hampshire.
• Pay Rates: £12.90/hr standard, £19.35/hr Sunday, £15.74/hr nights, £25.80/hr Bank Holidays.
• The role may be emotionally demanding due to challenging behaviour, illness, or end-of-life care.
