Permanent role with a Local Authority

Job Summary:

•Herefordshire Council is recruiting HCPC-registered Occupational Therapists to join the Independent Living Service.

•The role focuses on enabling adults to achieve independence, maintain quality of life, and participate fully in daily activities through person-centred, strengths-based interventions.

•The post-holder will work across Herefordshire in collaboration with social care, health, housing, and external agencies, delivering holistic occupational therapy services in a range of community settings.

Key Duties/Accountabilities (Sample):

•Undertake statutory, strengths-based Occupational Therapy assessments for adults with diverse health conditions.

•Identify risks, barriers, and strengths to promote independence and wellbeing.

•Develop and implement personalised, meaningful intervention programmes.

•Provide early intervention and prevention strategies to reduce escalation of care needs.

•Work autonomously in fixed, field, or flexible roles using a person-centred approach.

•Facilitate provision of aids, equipment, home adaptations, and technology-enabled solutions.

•Collaborate with families, carers, and multi-disciplinary teams to support care planning.

•Supervise junior staff and contribute to service development and improvement.

•Maintain professional standards and compliance with HCPC regulations and relevant legislation.

Skills/Experience:

•HCPC-registered Occupational Therapist with relevant post-qualification experience.

•Proven ability to manage a varied caseload and deliver person-centred interventions.

•Strong assessment and analytical skills, including functional, social, and environmental evaluations.

•Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organisational abilities.

•Experience in adult social care, prevention, and enablement-focused practice.

•Ability to work independently and within multi-disciplinary teams.

•Knowledge of legislation and best practice relevant to adult social care and occupational therapy.

•Commitment to professional development and continuous service improvement.

•Experience in supervising or mentoring junior staff is advantageous.

Additional Information:

•Location: Plough Lane, Hereford, HR4 0LE.

•Salary: £36,363 – £40,777.

•Hours: Full-time, 37 hours per week, flexible working available.
