Summary
  • The Home Moves Plus (HMP) Project is a 2-month contract with a local authority aimed at optimising the use of existing social housing stock in Taunton and Wellington. This role is crucial in addressing the impact of Hinkley Point C’s construction on local housing needs by reducing under-occupied households within Somerset Council’s housing stock. The position ensures that tenants reside in homes that are well-suited to their circumstances, thereby freeing up accommodation for those in need.
Responsibilities
  • Uphold the Council’s values, equality, diversity, and inclusion policies.
  • Ensure health, safety, and wellbeing standards are met.
  • Engage with tenants and families to provide housing solutions.
  • Complete and process housing-related documentation, including applications, tenancy agreements, and incentive forms.
  • Update housing management systems with tenancy changes.
  • Determine grant values under the Transfer Removal Grant scheme and ensure compliance with financial processes.
  • Prepare and deliver reports on financial incentives, location data, case studies, and performance metrics.
  • Decide eligibility for incentives and support under policy guidelines.
  • Report safeguarding concerns as per procedures.
Essential Experience Required
  • Understanding of social housing issues and their impact on customers.
  • Experience in call handling and working within an office and customer service environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to organize and prioritise workload independently and as part of a team.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy with a methodical approach to work.
Essential Qualifications Required
  • Understanding of local housing demographics and regional impacts (e.g., Hinkley Point).
  • Knowledge of income management and housing best practices.
  • Expertise in allocations, lettings, housing law, and tenancy management.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and housing systems (Open Housing, Homefinder Somerset, Homeswapper).
  • Familiarity with Somerset Council services (Children’s, Adult Social Care, Mental Health).

  • Working hours: 37 hours per week
  • Location: Moorland House, Moorland Road, Taunton, Somerset, TA1 2FG, United Kingdom
  • Hybrid working with regular travel across Taunton and Wellington: 3 days on-site, 2 days remote working.
  • Occasional exposure to unkempt environments requiring protective measures.
  • Role requires a DBS check.
