Job description
2 Month Contract With A Local Authority
Job Purpose
The Senior Practitioner will provide high-quality professional leadership, supervision and practice oversight within Adult Services. The post holder will ensure the effective delivery of statutory social work functions, promote strengths-based and person-centred practice, and support continuous improvement across the OSR Team within the Integrated Learning Disabilities Service.
The role includes supervision of staff, management of complex cases, safeguarding leadership, and close partnership working across health, housing and voluntary sector partners. The post holder will ensure practice is legally compliant, outcome-focused and financially responsible.
Key Responsibilities
• supervise, appraise and manage the performance of allocated staff
• allocate work, monitor workloads and ensure timely and proportionate responses
• support staff to maintain and develop high professional standards and reflective practice
• promote strengths based practice, personalisation and self directed support
• manage a limited caseload of complex cases within the integrated learning disabilities service
• undertake complex assessments, reviews and support planning
• ensure accurate and timely recording in line with statutory and departmental standards
• lead or chair safeguarding adults enquiries, meetings and best interest meetings
• ensure compliance with safeguarding adults procedures, legislation and local policy
• provide practice guidance on care act, mental capacity act, dols, mental health act and safeguarding
• support legally literate, transparent and service user led decision making
• work in partnership with health, housing, commissioning and voluntary sector colleagues
• contribute to integrated health and social care initiatives across hackney
• deputise for the team manager when required
• contribute to quality assurance activity, audits and service improvement work
• operate within agreed performance management and budgetary frameworks
• maintain awareness of financial implications and promote cost effective practice
• support staff development and identify training needs in collaboration with workforce development
• attend and contribute to multi-disciplinary, locality and management meetings
• investigate and respond appropriately to complaints
• promote equality, inclusion and anti discriminatory practice
• uphold council values and contribute to a one organisation approach
Requirements
• degree in social work or equivalent
• registered with social work england
• enhanced dbs clearance
• amhp or best interests assessor status desirable
• post qualifying experience working with adults with learning disabilities and complex needs
• strong knowledge of the care act, mental capacity act, dols, mental health act and safeguarding
• experience of supervising staff and managing performance
• experience of chairing meetings and working in multi-disciplinary settings
• understanding of strengths based practice and making safeguarding personal
• experience of quality assurance and performance management
• excellent written and verbal communication skills
• ability to prioritise, delegate and manage competing demands
• strong analytical and decision making skills
• ability to work flexibly and adapt to change
• good IT and report writing skills
• ability to work collaboratively across organisations
