3-month contract opportunity with a local authority

Summary
  • This is a 3-month contract opportunity with a local authority, focusing on delivering high-quality social work within the Child in Care team. The role is crucial in ensuring that children and young people receive safe, effective, and timely interventions. As a Senior Practitioner, you will manage a diverse caseload, contribute to court proceedings, and support the achievement of excellent outcomes for children in care, in line with Birmingham Children’s Trust’s GOOD Ofsted standards.
Responsibilities
  • Manage a caseload of up to 17–18 children, ensuring all statutory responsibilities are fulfilled.
  • Work with children in long-term foster care, supported accommodation, or residential placements, with minimal out-of-city cases.
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments, care planning, LAC reviews, and permanency planning.
  • Maintain accurate and timely case records in accordance with legislation and Trust policies.
Essential Experience
  • Significant post-qualifying experience as a Social Worker within children’s services.
  • Proven experience in supporting children in care or managing complex safeguarding cases.
  • Strong skills in assessment, case management, and court report writing.
  • Experience in collaborative work with multi-agency professionals.
  • Ability to manage a varied caseload while maintaining high practice standards.

Essential Qualifications

  • Social Work qualification (Degree in Social Work, DipSW, CQSW, or equivalent).
  • Current registration with Social Work England.
Additional Information
  • Working hours: 37 hours per week.
  • Preference for candidates who are car drivers.
  • Work on Birmingham Children’s Trust’s hybrid model, with office-based days on Mondays and Tuesdays. Flexible work locations include Lifford House or One Avenue Road, with on-site parking available.
  • DBS required.
  • Bi-weekly payment schedule.
