Job Summary:
• The Smoke Alarm Monitoring Officer will support the Homes and Communities service by ensuring smoke alarm systems within residential street properties are properly maintained, tested, and functioning effectively.
• The role involves inspecting communal areas, carrying out routine testing of smoke alarm systems, installing alarms where required, and identifying potential fire risks within residential buildings. The post holder will play an important role in maintaining fire safety standards and ensuring compliance with housing safety requirements.
• The role requires working across various properties, using stepladders and working at height when necessary, while maintaining accurate records of inspections and ensuring communal areas remain free from fire hazards.

Key Duties/Accountabilities (Sample):
• Carry out routine testing of LD3 smoke alarm systems located in communal areas of residential street properties.
• Install Grade F smoke alarms where required to ensure properties meet safety requirements.
• Diagnose and identify minor faults with smoke alarm equipment (non-electrical issues).
• Conduct inspections of communal areas within residential properties to identify fire safety risks.
• Record inspection results and maintain accurate monitoring and maintenance records.
• Remove any items or hazards that could pose an immediate fire risk in communal areas.
• Use stepladders safely when accessing alarm systems or inspecting elevated areas.
• Work across multiple residential locations to carry out safety checks and maintenance activities.
• Report significant faults, safety issues, or hazards to relevant teams for further action.
• Support the Council’s fire safety compliance and risk management procedures.

Skills/Experience:
• Experience carrying out property inspections, maintenance checks, or safety inspections.
• Experience working within housing, property maintenance, or building services environments.
• Experience installing or maintaining smoke alarm systems or similar safety equipment.
• Experience working within residential buildings or communal housing environments.
• Ability to identify fire risks and safety hazards within communal areas.
• Good practical maintenance and inspection skills.
• Ability to diagnose minor equipment faults.
• Strong attention to detail when completing inspection reports and records.
• Good organisational skills and ability to manage multiple property visits.
• Ability to work independently and follow safety procedures.
• Good communication skills when reporting issues and liaising with colleagues.

Additional Information:
• Bi-Weekly Payments.
• Full UK driving licence.
• Ability to work at height and safely use stepladders.
• Basic DBS clearance required.
• Rate: £26.19 per hour Umbrella/Limited.
• Contract Length: Approximately 90 weeks.
• Working Hours: 36 hours per week.
• Location: Camden, London.
• Start Date: Target start date is 07 April 2026.
