Job description
Summary
This role seeks a legal professional with demonstrated expertise to lead by example and maintain high work standards. The ideal candidate will excel in problem-solving, inspire confidence among clients and colleagues, and exercise sound judgment. They must also be adept at managing resources. Initially a 3-month position, there is potential for extension based on performance and needs. Remote work is acceptable.
Responsibilities
- Exhibit legal expertise and lead by example.
- Ensure high standards of work and accountability.

- Exercise sound and consistent judgment.
- Manage resources responsibly.
- Provide legal advice and draft documentation related to procurement, contracts, and non-contentious local government law.
- Support the Procurement team and provide legal advice as directed by senior legal staff.
- Stay updated on relevant legal developments.
- Assist in training staff and clients on legal issues.
- Support equality of opportunity and comply with health and safety legislation.
- Adhere to the Council’s Corporate Safeguarding Policy.
- Undertake additional duties as required, supporting hybrid working needs.
Requirements
- Education & Training: Qualified Solicitor, Barrister, or equivalent with a current practising certificate.
- Experience/Knowledge:
- Experience in procurement law and contract drafting.
- Knowledge of local government governance and decision-making.
- Ability to draft documents accurately and timely.
- Experience in construction and waste matters is desirable.
- Experience in procurement law and contract drafting.
- Skills and Abilities:
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Strong drafting skills and ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Proficiency in IT, including Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, and legal case management systems.
- Ability to guide and supervise legal assistants.
