Job description

Summary


This role seeks a legal professional with demonstrated expertise to lead by example and maintain high work standards. The ideal candidate will excel in problem-solving, inspire confidence among clients and colleagues, and exercise sound judgment. They must also be adept at managing resources. Initially a 3-month position, there is potential for extension based on performance and needs. Remote work is acceptable.

Responsibilities

  • Exhibit legal expertise and lead by example.
  • Ensure high standards of work and accountability.
  • Solve problems effectively and inspire confidence in clients and colleagues.
  • Exercise sound and consistent judgment.
  • Manage resources responsibly.
  • Provide legal advice and draft documentation related to procurement, contracts, and non-contentious local government law.
  • Support the Procurement team and provide legal advice as directed by senior legal staff.
  • Stay updated on relevant legal developments.
  • Assist in training staff and clients on legal issues.
  • Support equality of opportunity and comply with health and safety legislation.
  • Adhere to the Council’s Corporate Safeguarding Policy.
  • Undertake additional duties as required, supporting hybrid working needs.

Requirements


  • Education & Training: Qualified Solicitor, Barrister, or equivalent with a current practising certificate.
  • Experience/Knowledge:
    • Experience in procurement law and contract drafting.
    • Knowledge of local government governance and decision-making.
    • Ability to draft documents accurately and timely.
    • Experience in construction and waste matters is desirable.
  • Skills and Abilities:
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
    • Strong drafting skills and ability to work with minimal supervision.
    • Proficiency in IT, including Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, and legal case management systems.
    • Ability to guide and supervise legal assistants.
