Summary
  • The SEN Case Officer is responsible for managing a caseload of children and young people with Special Educational Needs (SEN), ensuring compliance with the SEND Code of Practice. This role is crucial in supporting the service by reducing its backlog through the completion of annual reviews, new statutory assessments, and ongoing case management. The position requires fulfilling the full duties of a Caseworker, as the role is not limited to annual reviews or assessments alone.
Responsibilities
  • Manage a personal caseload of children and young people with Education, Health and Care (EHC) needs.
  • Lead and coordinate the statutory EHC assessment process within required timescales.
  • Process and respond to annual reviews, ensuring decisions and amendments are issued on time.
  • Draft, amend, and finalise EHC Plans in accordance with statutory guidance.
  • Ensure all casework tasks are completed to statutory deadlines (6-week response, 20-week assessments, annual review timelines, etc.).
Essential Experience Required
  • Experience as an SEN Caseworker or in a similar SEND statutory role within a local authority.
  • Experience handling annual reviews or new EHC needs assessments.
  • Experience managing a high-volume caseload and meeting statutory deadlines.
Essential Qualifications Required
  • Relevant qualification in education, SEN, social care, or related field.
  • Training in SEND legislation, EHC processes, or multi-agency working.
Additional Information
  • Working hours: 37 hours per week
  • Start date: End of April, running through to the end of October (a 6-month contract).
  • The role requires Enhanced DBS.
  • Please note we work on bi-weekly payment.
