Job description

Job Purpose

To support qualified social workers in safeguarding and promoting the welfare of vulnerable children and young people in Birmingham by delivering high-quality, child-centred practice and contributing to effective assessments, interventions and multi-agency working.



Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake an allocated worker role for casework as directed by the Team Manager or Social Worker.

  • Gather, accurately record and critically analyse information to contribute to statutory assessments, care planning and decision-making.

  • Ensure the safety, welfare and best interests of children and young people are paramount in all aspects of practice.

  • Provide practical, day-to-day support to children, young people and their families in line with assessed needs and care plans.

  • Support the delivery of interventions that promote positive outcomes for children and families.

  • Work collaboratively with internal teams and external partner agencies to ensure coordinated and effective services.

  • Communicate effectively with children, young people, families and professionals using clear verbal and written communication.

  • Maintain accurate, timely and high-quality case records in accordance with statutory, legal and organisational requirements.

  • Contribute to reports, meetings, reviews and other statutory processes as required.

  • Take responsibility for own professional development, reflective practice and compliance with legislation, policies and procedures.

  • Actively participate in supervision, team meetings and service reviews.

  • Undertake any other duties commensurate with the role and the needs of the service.


Requirements

  • Experience of working with children, young people and families in a social care, safeguarding or related setting.

  • Knowledge and understanding of safeguarding legislation, statutory guidance and child-centred practice.

  • Ability to gather, analyse and accurately record information.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team.

  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

  • Willingness to undertake a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.

  • Experience of working within a local authority or children’s social care environment.

  • Knowledge of statutory assessment frameworks and processes.

  • Relevant qualification in health, social care or a related field.
