Job description
3 Month Contract With A local Authority
The Children’s Independent Reviewing Officer (IRO) ensures that children in care have a voice and that their care plans are effectively monitored. This role involves chairing key meetings, reviewing children’s progress, and providing independent oversight to ensure the highest standards of care.
The role is predominantly home-based, with attendance required at the Guildhall for monthly team meetings and conferences, including Initial and Review Child Protection Conferences (ICPCs/RCPCs).
Key Responsibilities
Act as the Independent Reviewing Officer (IRO) and Independent Chair for children’s meetings.
Chair Initial Child Protection Conferences (ICPCs) and Review Child Protection Conferences (RCPCs).
Chair and complete Child Looked After Reviews in line with statutory guidance.
Conduct Midpoint Reviews to monitor care plan progress.
Undertake quality assurance activities, including RAG (Red, Amber, Green) assessments, to ensure compliance and continuous improvement.
Maintain accurate, up-to-date records of all meetings, reviews, and actions taken.
Liaise with multi-agency teams to ensure care plans are child-centered and effectively implemented.
Provide independent oversight, challenging practice where necessary to safeguard children’s welfare.
Attend monthly team meetings and relevant conferences in-person at Guildhall, Shropshire.
Requirements
Experience in child protection, social work, or related children’s services role.
Knowledge of statutory frameworks for looked-after children and child protection procedures.
Excellent communication, chairing, and facilitation skills.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage workload independently.
Proficiency in record-keeping and reporting for quality assurance.
Ability to work both remotely and in-office as required.
Relevant professional qualification in social work or related field.
Previous experience as an Independent Reviewing Officer or Independent Chair.
