2-3 month contract with a local authority

Job Purpose
  • This is a 2-3 month contract with a local authority. The role involves executing all aspects of practical amenity horticulture to the highest standards, in accordance with the Grounds Maintenance Specification and client requirements. The postholder will play a crucial role in the upkeep, enhancement, and presentation of public spaces, ensuring the safe and efficient use of tools, vehicles, and equipment.
Key Duties/Accountabilities
  • Perform grass cutting, strimming, hedge trimming, and removal of leaves and litter.
  • Plant bedding plants, shrubs, and trees according to set standards.
  • Maintain shrub beds, including pruning, division, and seasonal upkeep.
  • Undertake soft landscaping work such as top-soiling, cultivation, seeding, and shrub bed renewal.
  • Apply chemicals safely and appropriately.
  • Set out, mark, and maintain sports facilities.
Essential Experience Required
  • Demonstrable practical experience in all aspects of horticulture, including grass cutting and use of horticultural machinery.
Essential Qualifications Required
  • NVQ Level 1 in Horticulture (or equivalent) OR at least 2 years of practical experience in Grounds Maintenance.
  • A full, current UK driving licence.

  • Working hours: 37.5 hours per week
  • Role requires a driving licence.
  • Location: Telford Street, Newport, Newport, NP19 0ES, United Kingdom
  • The interview will take place at St Woolos Cemetery and will be a group interview. All candidates must provide a full driving license.
  • Payment is on a bi-weekly schedule.
