Job description
3 month contract role with a Local Authority
Job Summary:
• Deliver high-quality painting and decorating services across council housing stock, including tenanted and void properties, ensuring excellent standards and customer satisfaction.
• Undertake a range of multi-skilled tasks, with a particular focus on damp and mould treatment, contributing to safe and well-maintained homes.
• Work as part of a responsive Direct Works team, managing workload efficiently and supporting the delivery of responsive repairs, planned works and capital projects.
Key Duties/Accountabilities (Sample):
• Carry out painting and decorating works across responsive repairs, planned maintenance, void properties and capital programmes to a high standard.
• Undertake damp and mould treatment, including preparation, treatment and redecoration in line with best practice.
• Plan and organise daily workload to maximise productivity and meet appointments and service targets.
• Identify and report additional or follow-on works, ensuring accurate job orders are raised.
• Liaise with supervisors and schedulers to provide updates on progress, delays or material requirements.
• Maintain accurate records of work completed, materials used and job progress using PDA/mobile systems.
• Ensure all tools, materials and equipment are used safely, maintained appropriately and accounted for.
• Support apprentices and trainees by providing guidance and checking work where required.
• Comply with all health and safety regulations, including safe systems of work, asbestos awareness and working at height.
• Deliver excellent customer service when working in occupied homes, maintaining professionalism and respect at all times.
• Drive and maintain a company vehicle where required, adhering to council policies.
Skills/Experience:
• NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Painting & Decorating, or significant relevant experience.
• Proven experience delivering high-quality painting and decorating in domestic properties.
• Experience in damp and mould treatment (essential).
• Multi-skilled experience or willingness to undertake additional trade training.
• Good knowledge of construction health and safety practices, including asbestos awareness and working at height.
• Experience using PDA/mobile devices for job management, materials ordering and record keeping.
• Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage professionally with residents and colleagues.
• Ability to identify issues and proactively resolve or escalate them.
Additional Information:
• Bi-Weekly Payments.
• Full, clean UK driving licence (essential).
• Willingness to undergo DBS clearance.
• Client: London Borough of Islington.
• Location: 33–37 Brewery Road, London (field-based across borough).
• Hours: 40 per week (08:00 – 17:00).
• Service Area: Housing Property Services – Direct Works.
• Working Environment: On-site in tenanted and void properties.
• Requirement: Must have experience in damp and mould treatment.
