6 month contract role with a Local Authority
Job Summary:
• The Head of Housing Services will provide strategic leadership and operational oversight of landlord and neighbourhood services for Slough Borough Council.
• The role is responsible for delivering high-quality, compliant housing management services in line with the Regulator of Social Housing’s consumer standards.
• The postholder will drive service improvement, enhance resident satisfaction, and ensure effective performance across all frontline housing operations.
• Reporting to the Director of Housing Services, the role will lead multidisciplinary teams to deliver efficient, resident-focused services.

Key Duties/Accountabilities (Sample):
• Lead and manage housing services including neighbourhood management, resident involvement, and business intelligence functions.
• Ensure full compliance with the Regulator of Social Housing’s consumer standards and all relevant housing legislation.
• Drive continuous improvement across housing services, using performance data and resident feedback.
• Oversee service delivery to ensure high levels of tenant satisfaction and community engagement.
• Manage and support direct reports including Neighbourhood Manager, Resident Involvement Manager, Housing Business Intelligence Lead, and Recharge Officer.
• Develop and implement housing strategies, policies, and service plans aligned with organisational objectives.
• Monitor budgets and ensure effective financial management of housing services.
• Lead on performance management, reporting, and service benchmarking.
• Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders, residents, and external partners.
• Promote a culture of accountability, inclusion, and excellent customer service across teams.

Skills/Experience:
• Extensive experience in senior housing management within a local authority or social housing setting.
• Strong knowledge of UK housing legislation and the Regulator of Social Housing’s consumer standards.
• Proven leadership and people management experience across multidisciplinary teams.
• Demonstrable experience in driving service improvement and organisational change.
• Experience of working with tenant engagement and resident involvement frameworks.
• Strong financial and budget management skills.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
• Ability to analyse performance data and translate insights into service improvements.
• Experience managing complex housing operations and delivering against KPIs.
• Degree-level qualification or equivalent experience in housing, public sector management, or related field.

• Bi-Weekly Payments.
• Contract Type: Temporary to Permanent opportunity.
• Location: Observatory House, Slough.
• Hours: 37.5 per week (09:00–17:00).
• Reporting to: Director of Housing Services.
• Direct Reports: 4 senior roles plus wider housing teams.
• This is a senior leadership role within the Regeneration, Housing and Environment directorate.
