Permanent Role with a Local Authority

Summary
  • The EDI Lead will be responsible for developing, delivering, and embedding an ambitious and innovative Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion strategy across the Council. This role will drive cultural transformation, influence leadership behaviors, and support systemic change to create a truly inclusive organization. The postholder will provide expert guidance on EDI, organizational development, learning & development, and colleague engagement. They will work closely with stakeholders across the Council to ensure EDI principles are integrated into policy, practice, people management, and long-term organizational planning.
Responsibilities
  • Lead the design, implementation, and evaluation of the Council’s Equality, Diversity & Inclusion strategy and associated action plans.
  • Drive a council-wide cultural change program with a strong EDI focus, ensuring alignment with strategic and operational priorities.
  • Provide specialist EDI expertise to HR, senior leaders, and service areas to support inclusive decision-making and people practices.
Requirements
  • Substantial experience in developing and delivering EDI strategies within a large, complex organization.
  • Demonstrated experience leading organizational change or culture transformation programs.
  • Strong background in HR, organizational development, or people transformation.
  • Degree-level education or equivalent professional experience in EDI, HR, Organizational Development, or a related field.
  • Professional HR/OD qualification (CIPD Level 5/7 or equivalent) – desirable.
  • Recognized EDI certification or continuous professional development in equality and inclusion – desirable.
Additional Information
  • Working hours: 36 hours per week
  • 1 or 2 days in the office
  • Consideration for a three-day working week and a higher day rate
